In collaboration with the Runway Learning Center, the Multicultural Leadership Organization (MCLO) is hosting its annual international bruncheon from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the Dugan-Gorges Conference Center. The event is a fundraiser that brings food from around the world to Newman’s campus.
Admission is $5; volunteers and international students get a free plate. Any Newman community member can volunteer for the event.
Natalie Trigo, a junior studying biology pre-occupational therapy and the president of MCLO, is excited for everyone to have the opportunity to try food they may never have been able to before.
“This event allows Newman students to try foods from around the world. Volunteers can bring dishes or work the event in order to get a free plate, and they will get a chance to win some gift cards,” Trigo said.
“We hope students, faculty, and staff can come together and learn and appreciate different cultures,” Trigo said. “We currently have 67 international students from 34 different countries who are away from their families. We hope this event can make them feel closer to their roots, valued and welcome.”
Students and faculty will have the opportunity to try cultural dishes brought by volunteers, local restaurants and Great Western Dining.
