Intramurals bring campus community together

Sep 02, 2015

Intramurals have returned at Newman University – with plenty of kick.

On Tuesday, Sept. 2, intramurals held its first event, a game of kickball that pitted Newman students against some of the university’s staff.  The final score of the game was a devastating 30 – 7, with the students taking the impressive victory. Still, everyone who participated had a great time.

Dean of Students Levi Esses explained that these events are designed to build relationships outside of a classroom or work setting. He said he feels the goal was met.

“I hope we can have more events like this that bring the campus community together,” Esses commented.

Student Life Coordinator Mic Brunner, who is head of intramurals at Newman, shared that 75 people attended the event, with 50 individuals participating in the game. “It’s an awesome start to a great year!” he said.

Brunner also wanted to remind everyone that more events are coming up for intramurals. All students, faculty, staff, and alumni are eligible to participate. Registration is currently open for the upcoming events, “Ultimate Frisbee” and “NFL Pick’em.” To register, head to the Student Life Suite on campus in the Dugan Library and Campus Center.

Other intramural events coming up are:

3-on-3 Basketball Tournament
Flag Football League
Slow-Pitch Wiffle Ball League
