Newman University Athletics is preparing for its 33rd Annual Laurie Bell Memorial Jet Open Charity Golf Tournament.
“The Jet Open is an annual golf tournament in its 33rd year to raise money for NU athletic scholarships and help with facility upgrades,” explained Associate Athletic Director Maureen Rohleder. “Golfers can choose either a 7:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. tee time.”
The event will begin on Sunday, Aug. 6, at 5:30 p.m. in the Dugan-Gorges Conference Center with the Jet Open kickoff party. Free food and drinks will be provided for sponsors, golfers and guests, and the annual live and silent auctions will take place during the party.
Rohleder explained, “We will sell 100 tickets at $100 each. One of those tickets will be picked and the winner will get to choose from any of the live auction items they want before the auction starts.”
Prizes include one week at a condo in Mexico, a golf cart, dinner for 16 at Gianni Bacci’s, Kansas City Chiefs tickets and more. All proceeds go to the Newman University Athletics to help provide scholarships for athletes, facility upgrades, uniforms and other needs.
The golf tournament — which includes lunch, a golfer gift and prizes for the top teams — will take place at Rolling Hills Country Club on Monday, Aug. 7, with an option between two shotgun starts.
Coffee, juice and doughnuts will be offered before the 7:30 a.m. tee time and there will be drinks and snacks on the course throughout the event. Lunch will be served in the dining room from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The second flight tees off at 12:30 p.m. after lunch. There will also be a hole-in-one opportunity to win a free car on two different holes.
The charity event will conclude with an after-party and awards ceremony at Emerson-Biggins west on Monday evening following the tournament. During the ceremony, winners will be announced for the longest putt and longest drive contests. Golfers will be able to enjoy a free taco bar and cash bar soft drinks.
Returning golfers can expect something new this year — the first 30 people to sign at $100 per person will secure a spot for a “Garden Party at the Dondlingers.”
Rohleder said, “Tom and Colleen Dondlinger will host a backyard party on Saturday, Sept. 16, with a Mexican menu including food, drinks and a great amount of fun. Only the first 30 will get a spot.”
Players and/or teams can register online. For more information contact Rohleder at (316) 942-4291, ext. 2118 or [email protected].
