Newman University athletics recently hosted the 34th annual Laurie Bell Memorial Charity Golf Tournament.

The fundraiser began with its traditional kickoff party, which was held Sunday, Aug. 5, at the Crestview Country Club. Donors, supporters and golfers gathered for a silent and live auction while enjoying cocktails and appetizers. The big ticket item of the evening was a golf cart that sold for more than $3,800.

The golf tournament was held the next day at Crestview with 200 golfers participating.

The tournament and kickoff party raised more than $80,000 for the Newman University athletics department to help provide scholarships for athletes, facility upgrades, uniforms and other needs.

Brian Baxter, Zane Ehling, Brandon Hall and Mike Pelfrey shot a 53 during the four-man scramble tournament, taking first place in the first flight.
