On Monday, Sept. 28, the Newman University Jets Volleyball Team defeated Bethel College in a 3-1 victory, bringing the number of straight wins to 10. Jets Volleyball is now ranked second in the Heartland Conference, just behind University of Arkansas – Fort Smith.
Newman University Jets Volleyball will square off with St. Mary’s University at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1, at home.
The team’s winning streak has created quite a buzz on and off the campus. The Wichita Eagle caught up with Newman volleyball coach, Destiny Clark.
From the Wichita Eagle:
The two sides approached each other with understandable wariness.
On one side was Newman’s new volleyball coach, Destiny Clark, with all of two years experience as a coach – and none on the college level – taking over an NCAA Division II program.
On the other side were Newman’s players – a veteran group whose core had been around the block in the Heartland Conference a couple of times already and had big goals.
It’s funny how things work out sometimes.
