Joan Melzer selected as expert panel member for national nursing exam

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing Licensure Examination (NCSBN) has chosen Newman University Associate Professor of Nursing Joan Melzer, M.N., M.S. as a subject matter expert for a development panel. The panel is responsible for developing items for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).

NCSBN, headquartered in Chicago, Ill., is responsible for developing and administering the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN®) and Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN®).

Melzer was approved by the Kansas State Board of Nursing and selected by NCSBN to participate on the NCLEX® item development panel of subject matter experts, which was held Feb. 12-17, 2017 in Chicago.

The NCLEX-RN® and NCLEX-PN® identify those candidates who demonstrate minimal competence to practice nursing at the entry level. Passing the NCLEX® is one of the requirements necessary for attaining a nursing license and registration in the United States and participating Canadian provinces and territories.
