John Clevenger

The Newman community was extremely saddened to hear of the passing of board member John Clevenger on July 22, 2017.

Clevenger joined the Newman University Board of Trustees in September 2013. As an executive committee member, he was very active and supported the university in many ways.

Through his connections, Newman received substantial support for the Jet Open, Party on the Plaza and the Facing Forward campaign. His expert knowledge of finance was beneficial to the role he played at the university.

Newman President Noreen M. Carrocci, Ph.D. said, “Family and faith were foremost for John, followed by an incredible passion for his Commerce Bank family and his many commitments to our community. We are truly blessed to have had Newman University as one of John’s commitments.”

Newman was only one of many organizations that felt the impact made by Clevenger. He was heavily involved in the Wichita community through organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kansas, Catholic Charities, Exploration Place, the Via Christi Foundation, Wesley Medical Center, Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce, Young Presidents’ Organization, and more.

Clevenger will be missed by all who knew him. The Newman community continues to pray for his family and loved ones during this very difficult time.
