Director of Steckline Gallery, Shannon Johnston, is trying something new this year. She has arranged Newman’s first juried exhibit, “Swipe Right.”
Johnston explained, “The title, ‘Swipe Right,’ is a play on dating apps where you swipe right for yes or left for no on individuals’ profiles. As a juried exhibit, the juror is accepting or refusing submissions, swiping left or right. It also opens up potential thematic continuity for works submitted … a modern look at relationships, acceptance, love, etc.”
There were no restrictions on what type of art could be submitted, therefore, the show contains a wide variety of works. Kristin Beal, a gallery manager and lecturer at Wichita State University, juried the show.

The opening reception is from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at Steckline Gallery located in De Mattias Hall. It’s part of Wichita’s Final Friday activities showcasing artists.
Art for Lunch will be held from 12-1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29 at Steckline Gallery. A light lunch will be served on a first-come, first-served basis. Guests are also welcome to bring their lunch. This event is also free and reservations are not required.
