Two Newman University basketball players were featured in a live video broadcast on KAKE News on Thursday, Jan. 12. Here is a summary from that broadcast:

Brothers Daniel (senior) and Matthew (freshman) Green were never meant to play college basketball together. Daniel Green is Matthew’s older brother – by 5 years.

Daniel had a series of basketball-related injuries from previous schools that took him off the court and delayed his college education. After years of healing, he is back on the court – but this time, as a Newman Jet.

“I definitely went through some bumps and bruises,” Daniel said. “But I’m a better person now.”

Both Daniel and Matthew were drafted by the Newman University men’s basketball team in the fall of 2016.

“This is surreal, you know,” said Matthew. “I never thought in my life that I would be able to play with him. But here I am – in Kansas. Wichita, Kansas.”

Newman University Men’s Basketball Coach Mark Potter believes that the discipline they both possess is not limited to the court, but is reflected in the community around them.

“Daniel and Matthew are 1%er’s,” Potter stated. “They are more uncommon on and off the floor than 99% of society. They are truly special people.”
