Summer 2017 is coming to an end. That means days on a sandy beach, fire pits accompanied by cold drinks and friends, random nature adventures and road trips are soon going to be moments deposited into those long-lasting memory banks.
Before you begin another academic year, be sure you make the rest of your summer days count! Here are five fun, cheap and local ways to close out the summer of 2017.
Meatball Mondays
Siena Tuscan Steakhouse, located in the Ambassador Hotel, 104 S. Broadway, offers $6 Italian meatballs Monday through Friday during happy hour (3-6 p.m.) through mid-August. Whether you make this event a final romantic date before a summer love has vanished or make it into a contest of who can eat the most meatballs, it’s bound to be a great addition to your last moments of summer. You can also download the free Feest app which can help you find other great restaurant specials around the Wichita area.
Twilight Tuesdays at the Sedgwick County Zoo
Twilight Tuesdays, presented by Cox, offers a new experience to be had at the zoo. The event is offered every Tuesday throughout July from 6-8:30 p.m. and the best part? IT’S FREE! All you need to do is grab a voucher from a Cox location in Wichita, Derby, or El Dorado. Addresses and more information are provided in the link.
Five Dollar Wednesday movie nights
Wednesdays would be a great time to catch up on the latest films with your friends, family or yourself that you missed while you were on the beach. Old Town Warren Theatre offers $5 movie nights every Wednesday. Make sure to catch the jazz pre-show before your film.
Comedic Thursdays
They say laughing may increase the chances of a longer life, which means more summers! Why not increase your lifespan by attending a comedy night at The Loony Bin? They bring in top-ranked national touring comedians, making it the premier spot for live comedy in Kansas. Shows start at 8 p.m. on Thursdays.
Summer Concert Fridays
KEYN Summer Concert Series will offer free concerts on Friday nights until Aug. 11 at WaterWalk, 515 S. Main. This event would be the perfect way to spend your Friday evening. There are pre-concert activities along with food trucks and a cash bar that begin serving at 6:30 p.m. The music starts at 8 p.m. Bring lawn chairs. Get more information about KEYN Summer Concert Series here.
Remember, classes begin on Aug. 26 — make the last month count!
