Newman University carried the fourth-highest number of student-athletes to earn Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) academic achievement recognition out of 14 schools.

A total of 86 Jets earned a 2019-20 Academic Achievement Award from the Division II Athletic Directors Association.

The award recognizes Division II student-athletes that perform off the field and in the classroom, receiving a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Eligible student-athletes must also have attended a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college-level work and must have been a member of an intercollegiate team in his/her last academic year.

Newman Athletic Director Joanna Pryor said she is excited and proud of what the student-athletes have accomplished.

“I couldn’t be more proud,” she exclaimed. “We as an athletic department have a high academic expectation for our athletes and they never cease to amaze us with their abilities to manage their time between sports and academics.”
