Nov 14, 2013

The Newman University Music and Theatre Departments will present “Into the Woods,” featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine. The musical will be presented at 8 p.m. on Nov. 21, 22 and 23, and at 2 p.m. on Nov. 24, in Performance Hall inside the De Mattias Fine Arts Center on the Newman campus.

Tickets will be available at the door for $12 general public, $10 Newman faculty / staff, seniors, and members of the military, and $5 non-Newman students. Newman students admitted free with student I.D

“‘Into the Woods’ weaves the traditional stories of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and Jack and the Beanstalk into one coherent tale,” said Newman Director of Theatre Mark Mannette. “It also follows its own story line and then imagines what happens to the characters beyond ‘happily ever after’. It turns our ideas of these archetypal characters upside down and makes us see that even fairy tale characters have many of the same needs and foibles of the rest of humanity.”
