Newman Athletic Department holds second annual ‘Drop and Shop’

Dec 03, 2009

The Newman University Athletic Department is giving parents an opportunity to take care of their Christmas shopping while their children play games with NU student-athletes at the second annual “Drop and Shop” this Sunday at Fugate Gymnasium.

The second annual “Drop and Shop,” a community service project offered by the Newman University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), will take place from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 6 inside Newman University’s Fugate Gymnasium. This service is available for parents of children 4 to 12 years old. While parents are out shopping, their children will participate in a fun-filled day of sporting activities with Newman University student-athletes. Activities planned for the day include soccer, basketball, volleyball, wiffleball, dodge ball, capture the flag, and many other games. Newman University athletic staff members will be on hand to supervise the event.

Children may be dropped off at the west end of Fugate Gymnasium, and must be picked up by 4:30 p.m. A parent or legal guardian must sign-in on arrival and submit contact information prior to dropping off their children, as well as signing out their children when they pick them up.

The event is free of charge, but donations will be accepted with all proceeds going to benefit the “Make-A-Wish Foundation.” For questions or more information, contact Head Women’s Basketball Coach Tracy Anderson at 316-942-4291, ext. 2218.
