On Sept. 19, 2024, the Newman University alumni association sponsored 20 volunteers at the Feed My Starving Children mobile pack held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton (SEAS) in Wichita, Kansas.

Several Newman soccer players, students, staff and alumni were particularly helpful and appreciated for their youth and strength.

“It was a pleasure for the older alums to watch our students in action within the community,” said June Huie ’89 and committee member of the Feed My Starving Children event. “They immediately became part of the operational team, working quickly and efficiently, moving boxes in and out and delivering supplemental materials to the packers.”

Huie is looking forward to seeing students and alumni return to help at next year’s event, which is already in the beginning stages of planning.

The 2024 three-day Wichita food packing event prepared enough meals to feed 447 kids for an entire year. The Newman volunteers were among 1,100 volunteers packing 163,296 meals which will be shipped to the poorest countries in the world.

These shelf-stable pouches contain four ingredients; rice, soy, vitamins and vegetables. The recipe is specifically designed to nourish starving kids.

Feed My Starving Children, a Christian nonprofit organization, worked with SEAS parishioners and volunteers to obtain the raw materials, coordinate the packing and deliver the meals to partners throughout the world.
