Fall Sports Update:

Jets volleyball hits the road sporting a 12-game winning streak. Newman plays at Oklahoma Panhandle State Oct. 8.  Earlier in the week, senior Ashley Gonzalez earned her fourth straight Heartland Volleyball Player of the Week Award.

Men’s soccer appears in the most recent Regional DII Rankings.  The Jets are on a three- game winning streak and junior Luca Anelli won Heartland Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Newman women’s golf took part in the West Texas Invitation tournament Oct. 5-6 in Amarillo, Texas. The Jets placed fifth as a team led by Imkeleen Meyer, who finished as the eighth place medalist.

The Jets men’s tennis team completed Oct. 3 in the McPherson (Kan.) College Doubles Championships. Max Pyle and Ajani King teamed up to win the title.

The 2015-16 collegiate bowling season opened last weekend for the Jets in Milwaukee, Wis. The women rolled to eighth place while the men placed 18th. Thirty-two schools participated in the tournament, the first of 10 on the schedule for Newman.

Winter Sports Outlook:

As the Newman University fall sports teams continue their successful seasons, the Heartland Conference is looking ahead to winter and the men’s and women’s basketball campaigns. Despite positive vibes at home the conference coaches and sports information directors are not giving the Jets much “love.”

In the Heartland preseason basketball polls, the Newman men are picked to finish seventh and the women’s are slated to place eighth.
