Newman University is among the top colleges nationwide that excel in offering educational programs that prepare students for high-demand, high-growth jobs in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
That’s among the findings of the 2015 STEM Jobs℠ Approved Colleges list.
The inaugural list, announced Dec. 2 by Victory Media, Inc., selects schools across the nation that excel in the areas of program alignment to job demand, job placement after graduation, and diversity in STEM programs. According to Victory Media, the list is the first of its kind to rate universities, colleges, community colleges and trade schools on their responsiveness and relevance to STEM occupations.
Newman was cited as having the best practices in the Program Alignment to STEM Jobs and STEM Job Placement After Graduation categories. Newman was one of only three colleges in Kansas named to the list of approved colleges.
“We’re delighted to be named to the list,” said Newman President Noreen M. Carrocci, Ph.D. “Newman has a long tradition of excellence in our science and health care related programs, and an impressive track record of graduates excelling in their chosen fields. Our nursing and allied health graduates consistently score higher than the national averages on licensing exams, and 96 percent of Newman pre-med graduates over the past 10 years have been accepted into medical schools. We’re very proud of all our students and faculty in STEM-related programs.”
Newman was among more than 1,600 schools that took part in a recent STEM Jobs survey process. Schools were scored based on publicly available data and responses to survey questions about STEM job alignment, STEM job placement, and diversity in a school’s STEM programs. There was no charge to participating schools in the assessment or the rights to the STEM Jobs Approved Colleges designation.
“With the list of STEM Jobs Approved Colleges we’re able to help parents, students and guidance counselors evaluate how well education is translating into real-world jobs, and how responsive institutions are to meeting those demands,” said Daniel Nichols, president of STEM Jobs. “We’re pleased to showcase schools like Newman as a school leading the way in this area.”
Newman and other approved colleges will be featured in the Winter 2015 issue of STEM Jobs magazine, along with the entire 2015 list of STEM Jobs Approved Colleges. The complete list of approved colleges is also available here.
