Newman University summer basketball camps offered in June

The Newman men’s and women’s basketball teams have announced summer camps for the month of June.
The Mark Potter Day Camp will take place June 15-17, and the Newman Team Camp takes place June 19-21. Both will be held at Fugate Gymnasium on the campus of Newman University.
The Mark Potter Day Camp is for children ages 6-16. It runs June 15-17 from 9 a.m. to noon each day with a cost of $75.
Potter said the day camp is a great opportunity for those who are being introduced to the fundamentals of basketball as well as those who are advanced in the game
“The camp focuses on the fundamentals of shooting, passing and team offense and defense concepts,” Potter said. “Our primary goal is to help your son improve as a basketball player and gain leadership and communications skills.”

The Newman Team Camp is for high school varsity and junior varsity teams. The camp runs June 19-21 at the Fugate Gymnasium. Levels of ninth through 12th grade can participate. The cost is $350 per team. The camp is a tournament-style camp that allows teams to compete against teams from all across the state. Registration is available online here.
There are also two summer camps directed by the Newman Women’s Basketball Team next month. The Skills Camp takes place June 22-24, and the Shooting Camp is on June 29. Both will be held at Fugate Gymnasium on the campus of Newman University.
The Shooting Camp is for girls and boys entering third to 12th grade. The camp is one day on June 29 from 9 a.m. to noon with the cost at $30, or $20 if you register before June 1. This camp places emphasis on offensive skill development. Shooting form, technique, footwork, progressions to get open and ball handling moves will be taught to help make participants effective scorers.
The camp staff will include Newman coaches and players as well as other area coaches.
