Newman University sustains storm damage

Overnight storms caused an estimated $35,000 in damages to outdoor athletic facilities and trees on the campus of Newman University on Aug. 10.

The university’s softball facility sustained the most destruction. The roof of the visitor’s dugout was torn off by high winds and the structure toppled.

A section of fence at McCarthy Field, home field for the Newman Jets Baseball Team, was damaged, as well.

In addition, a half dozen trees were snapped by winds during the storms.

The Newman campus did not lose power during the storms and there was no damage to academic or administration buildings on campus.
