Newman University to present William Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure April 11-14

Mar 28, 2013

The Newman University Theatre Department will present its second full production of the year featuring the work of William Shakespeare.

The production, Measure for Measure, will be staged at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 11 through Saturday, April 13, in Performance Hall of the De Mattias Fine Arts Center on the Newman University campus, 3100 McCormick in Wichita. A matinee performance will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 14.

Measure for Measure, directed by Newman University Theatre Director Mark Mannette, is set in Vienna and deals with issues of power and sex intermingled with ethics, honor, truth and deception.

“The play deals with very human issues and mature subject matter,” Mannette said. “Certainly the main characters are forced to deal with temptation and making moral or immoral choices, and the consequences that come with those choices. But many people say the issues in the play are as relevant today as they were when it was written more than 400 years ago.”

Tickets are $10 for general admission, $8 for senior citizens/military, and $5 for students with an I.D. Admission is free to Newman University students with a college I.D.
