Newman University Professor of English Bryan Dietrich, Ph.D. will read from his new book, Prime Directive, at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2011 in the Jabara Theatre.
His book is about Star Trek. It touches on a variety of topics such as two fathers, one in the Air Force who is brought closer to his son through a simple television show, while the other battles Alzheimer’s disease and teaches his son to be a man before he is gone. Dietrich explains these stories through poems with deep meaning.
Dietrich is the author of six books of poems, Krypton Nights, Universal Monsters, Love Craft, The Assumption, Prime Directive, and The Monstrance.
His poems have appeared in The New Yorker, The Nation, Poetry, Ploughshares, The Paris Review, Harvard Review, Yale Review, and many other journals. Having won The Paris Review Poetry Prize, a “Discovery”/The Nation Award, and a Writers at Work Fellowship, Dietrich has also been nominated for both the Pushcart and the Pulitzer. Currently, he is a professor of English at Newman University.
