Throngs of people came to Founders Plaza on the Newman University campus Oct. 2 for “Party on the Plaza – New Orleans Style,” this year’s annual event to raise funds for student scholarships. The dinner and social event brought the sights and sounds of the French Quarter to Newman with food, drinks, auctions, fireworks, dancing and more.

Following Saturday Vigil Mass in St. John’s Chapel, the event kicked off with with street performers, artists creating and demonstrating their works on site, mimes portrayed by the student improv group The Sloppy Joes, and a photo booth. The event also featured a steak dinner, an open bar from which guests could purchase New Orleans’ famous “Hurricane” drink, and live and silent auctions. After a fireworks show the evening concluded with a lively dance featuring Zydeco Cajun music from the acclaimed local band The Mudbugs.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Newman student scholarships.
