Newman University students, faculty, staff, families and friends are invited to step into a cozy kickoff to the holiday season during Polar Express Night on Monday, Nov. 24.
The free community event will begin at 7 p.m. in the Mabee Dining Center following the Newman women’s basketball game against Central Christian College, which tips off at 5:30 p.m. in the Fugate Gymnasium.
Hosted in collaboration by the Campus Activities Board (CAB) and the Student Government Association (SGA), the evening will include a showing of “The Polar Express” movie, holiday crafts, hot chocolate, snacks and themed prize baskets.
Organizers are also encouraging attendees to support local food-insecurity efforts by bringing canned goods or shelf-stable food items to donate. Each item contributed will count as an entry into a raffle, offering multiple gift opportunities. Half the donations will support the Jets Resource Hub, and the other half will benefit a local food bank.
The event is free and open to all members of the Newman community and their guests. Since the children riding the Polar Express in the movie and book versions wear pajamas, participants are encouraged to wear pajamas as well to help create a warm, festive atmosphere.
