Newman University Campus Ministry will host an all-faiths prayer breakfast at 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, in the Dugan-Gorges Conference Center. The event is free and open to the public. Those interested should RSVP no later than Tuesday, Oct. 9.
The breakfast is an annual tradition and includes entertainment by members of the Newman community along with a keynote speaker. Breakfast is served at 8 a.m. and the 40-minute program begins at 8:15.
Junior Sadie Korte, who sang at the 2017 prayer breakfast, will sing once again, accompanied by Tracy McGarey, executive assistant to the president, and Sister Fran Schumer and freshman Steven Nguyen will read scripture.
This year’s keynote speaker is Brandon Redic, lead pastor at The Bridge Church in Wichita, Kansas. Redic earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration at Texas A&M University, graduating with honors, in 2007. He then earned a master’s degree in theology from Dallas Theological Seminary and was one of four men selected by professors to preach during Senior Chapel.
Redic will focus on Philippians 4:6-7 during his keynote at the event, emphasizing the importance of prayer and finding peace in Jesus.
Monica Borger, Campus Ministry administrative assistant, said the prayer breakfast is something that people of all faiths will enjoy.
“I think the prayer breakfast is a really wonderful way to start the morning with faith and fellowship with the people you work with,” explained Borger. “It’s an easy thing to attend, and a great way to just enjoy the talent that we have in the community. What a nice, uplifting way to start the day.”
