In an innovative move to expand academic opportunities and better meet the evolving needs of today’s regional workforce, Newman University is launching seven new degree programs for fall 2025 through a groundbreaking partnership with Rize Education.

These undergraduate programs — offered in a hybrid format — combine in-person support with expert-led online courses and are tailored to prepare students for fast-growing careers in cutting-edge fields.

The new degree offerings include:

Vice President for Academic Affairs Alden Stout has led the university’s latest innovative initiative to help students and communities in Kansas.

“This partnership with Rize Education represents Newman University’s commitment to innovation and preparing our students for the careers of tomorrow,” Stout said. “These programs offer our students access to leading-edge curriculum, industry connections and the skills employers are actively seeking, while maintaining the personal attention and values-based education that defines the Newman experience.”

New programs feature flexibility

The programs’ hybrid-learning approach provides students with greater scheduling flexibility, which is especially beneficial for student-athletes and working students, while still delivering the benefits of Newman’s in-person educational experience.

David Cochran, dean of the School of Business & Technology at Newman, will head five of the new programs.

“These programs sit at the intersection of academic excellence and workforce readiness,” Cochran said. “With the hybrid format, students get the best of both worlds — the personal connections and campus experience that make Newman special, combined with access to nationwide experts in these specialized fields and greater scheduling flexibility.”

New innovative programs expand student options

The new programs target varied student interests. The applied AI program focuses on practical applications of artificial intelligence across industries; certified financial planning aligns with CFP board requirements; cybersecurity offers training in one of the most in-demand technical fields; data science teaches advanced analytics and machine learning; game development combines creativity with technical skill; the neuroscience program appeals to students interested in medicine, psychology and research; and nutrition prepares students for careers addressing global health challenges.

“What makes these programs unique is their career focus and the built-in flexibility,” added Stout. “Most of these programs include approximately one online class per semester, allowing students to benefit from both online learning and the rich in-person experience that makes Newman University special.”

The new academic programs are scheduled to begin classes in August 2025, pending final approval by the Higher Learning Commission.
