Silent Auction

Newman University Staff Assembly will host its annual silent auction from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10. The event was originally scheduled in April but was postponed due to COVID-19.

The annual event will have the same quality auction items but a different format. As the 2020 trend goes, the event will be fully online.

Melissa Castle, Human Resources coordinator, took over leading the event in fall 2020. She’s excited to see how the online format works and is glad it makes bidding accessible to those who wouldn’t have been able to visit the auction physically.

The items donated in early 2020 will be up for bid along with a few new additions.

“Unfortunately we were unable to provide some items we would have liked, in particular, tickets to a Royals game, but we still had many generous businesses donate some awesome items like local hotel stays, a wall climbing package and some sizable gift cards,” said Castle.

After checking gift certificates to check expiration dates, the committee has restructured the event and is ready to raise money for the university Hearts and Hands Fund.

All money raised will benefit the fund, which helps staff members who are going through hardships like injuries, illnesses and/or life changes. Staff and faculty can nominate their colleagues for assistance, If approved by the Staff Assembly Committee, recipients receive a check for $200.

Auction items will be available for viewing starting Monday, Nov. 9. After the auction closes, winners can pick up items they’ve won in Mail and Copy located on the lower level of Sacred Heart Hall.

Staff Assembly will be sending more information and the link to the catalog of items via email and through official university social media. The auction is open to the public for bidding.
