Nov 13, 2009

Five Newman senior pre-med students received early acceptance to the University of Kansas School of Medicine in fall 2009. Another senior, Joseph Baalmann, began his studies at KU Med under the school’s Scholars in Primary Care program, which selects only about six sophomore students in Kansas each year and assures them entry in medical school if they maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher in their college pre-medical science curriculum, achieve a satisfactory score on the MCAT examination, and demonstrate intention to practice medicine in Kansas. The students are (l-r): Baalmann, Andale, Kan.; Phong Le, Wichita, Kan.; Amanda Engels, Derby, Kan.; Kyle Miller, Derby; Barbara Nguyen, Wichita, and Isaac Johnston, Wichita.
