Family medicine specialist Donna Flemming Ewy, Ph.D., recently had her editorial on healthcare and expanding KanCare in Kansas published in the Wichita Eagle.
In her editorial, Ewy calls for Kansas to “pay close attention to human dignity and act for the common good.”
Catholic social teaching demands that we have ‘preferential option for the poor,'” Ewy said, “which means prioritizing the well-being of the poor and powerless within our society.”
Associate Professor of Theology Joshua Papsdorf, Ph.D. said the editorial is a summary of a larger paper Ewy wrote for a graduate ethics course at Newman University.
“Having her take the course material and make use of it in the ‘real world’ is exactly what we’re aiming for in the [theology] program,” he said.
Ewy is currently completing a graduate degree in theology at Newman University.
