University to celebrate Newman feast day Oct. 9

Oct 06, 2011

Newman University will celebrate the first feast day of Blessed John Henry Newman with a Mass at noon* and 7 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 9 in St. John’s Chapel. The feast day was announced by Pope Benedict XVI during the Beatification Ceremony of Newman held in England last September. Breaking from traditional practice, the Pope proclaimed the feast day not as the day of Newman’s death, but as the day Newman converted to Catholicism in 1845.
