Friday, May 6 officially marks the beginning of National Nurses Week. This weeklong celebration ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, who is celebrated as the founder of modern nursing. The American Nurses Association supports and encourages the annual celebration that highlights the commitment and contributions of professionals as well as the time and care they provide.

Newman University is proud to extend gratitude and recognition to those who are currently in the nursing field or pursuing a career in nursing. University officials also extend a special thank you to the hard working staff and faculty whose efforts change the lives of students. The Newman nursing program has continued to grow and succeed since its inauguration in 1979 when the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing sought out a collegiate home due to increasing education requirements for state certification.

Today, the Newman online nursing program is ranked #4 nationwide by Affordable Colleges Online, and graduates of Newman University science, nursing and health science programs find success at all levels. You can read about the success and accomplishments of Newman health care program graduates featured in the Spring 2016 issue of Newman University Magazine.
