Where are you headed to this spring break? Will you be walking along the streets of Paris or visiting the “big apple”? What about getting a stellar tan in Cancun, or hanging out on the beaches of Texas? Maybe you’re just a busy bee working double shifts at your job to earn extra money while you have the chance.
Wherever you’ll be and whatever plans you have, you’re destined to at least have a little fun and take some great photos while you’re off campus — and we would love to see them!
So grab your Newman gear and post your photos of your spring break fun on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #NUSB18, and we’ll share your vacation (or not so vacation) photos on our official social media.
If you’re anxious to experience something fun and new on spring break but have no plans and a small budget, here are some fun things to do in Kansas!
If you’re up for a little drive, visit Castle Rock and the Monument Rocks. The Monument Rocks are one of the Eight Wonders of Kansas and near Quinter, Kansas. You can let your inner photographer have a hay day with the beautiful limestone, chalk and rock formations.
On your way home, be sure to stop and see The Basilica of St. Fidelis, The Cathedral of the Plains in Victoria, Kansas. It is also one of the Eight Wonders of Kansas and is the first basilica in the state, one of only 78 in the United States. It is a great photo opportunity as well.
If you’re looking for a shorter drive, Hutchinson, Kansas is home to Strataca, the Kansas Underground Salt Mines. No fear, you won’t just be looking at salt. The mine has many interesting exhibits including props from films like Batman, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Talladega Nights stored in the mine and on display for your viewing. Fun photos can be taken here too!
Kansas City is nearby as well. Visit their many museums, malls or venues and check their events calendar for more fun activities. KC street art is easy to find and makes a great backdrop for a fun photo shoot.
If you’re stuck with a busy work schedule, don’t underestimate the happenings in Wichita and remember to take a little break for yourself. There are always art shows, concerts, events, games and meal deals for you to take advantage of. And don’t forget about the incredible murals scattered around town.
Making plans for spring break doesn’t have to be costly. If it comes down to no other options, you can always set your lawn chair up in the sandbox at the park, close your eyes and pretend to be on any beach in the world. We won’t judge.
The number one rule of spring break is to have fun, no matter where you are. If you’re traveling, remember that things don’t always go as planned so be flexible and try to make the best of every situation. Whether you’re traveling to a new city or staying local, always be aware of your surroundings and make good decisions. Utilize the buddy system and don’t forget to document your fun with great photos.
However you spend your spring break, be sure to enjoy it. Remember to hashtag #NUSB18 to share your adventures with Newman! And be sure to follow us on Twitter (@NewmanU) and Instagram (@newmanuniversity).
