Counseling Program recognized as one of the top programs in the nation for Christian colleges

May 14, 2015

For a second time this year, the Newman University Counseling Program has been recognized as one of the top programs in the nation. This time, the program has been selected as one of the nation’s top 20 counseling programs at a Christian college.

Over the past several years, the program has undergone a revamping of the past curriculum with the supervision of Newman University Director of Counseling John Walker. Also, connections have been made with treatment facilities in the area to make sure practices stay up-to-date. Walker reveals that in the future they are looking at “expanding the program further to help meet the needs of the local and state community.”

Walker also noted a major difference with other local counseling undergraduate programs and the program here at Newman. “We’re a really unique bachelor’s program. There isn’t another undergraduate program around which focuses so intensely on developing clinical practice skills.” Walker explained. “To find this anywhere else you would have to look towards a master’s program.”
