With the challenges many high schoolers are experiencing due to the FAFSA delay, Newman University Admissions is equipped to help.

Newman will continue accepting applications for fall 2024 until the drop/add deadline of Aug. 23, 2024 (the first Friday after classes begin).

What is FAFSA?

FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Colleges use FAFSA to help determine how much financial aid students are eligible to receive and any student may apply. Financial aid can include grants, scholarships, work-study funds and loans.

For most, the online FAFSA form takes less than one hour to complete (which includes gathering personal documents and necessary financial details). The 2024-25 FAFSA is now available and can be used to apply for financial aid to help pay for college attendance between July 1, 2024 and June 30, 2025.

Newman supporting students

In collaboration with the Financial Aid Office, the Newman University admissions team ensures it has the most up-to-date information to allow for a smooth application and cost estimate process for incoming students.

“We are trying to quell fears and encourage students and parents to be patient, and offering as much information as we can, in the form of cost estimates and follow-up visits so they feel comfortable and in the know about their decisions,” Senior Associate Director of Admissions Georgia Drewes said.

An important factor to consider, Drewes said, is that while Newman may be ready with financial aid packages for students, it doesn’t necessarily mean other colleges and universities are.

“Students could be waiting on offers from multiple schools still, and they’d like to see them before making a final decision,” Drewes added.

The application process of sending transcripts, gaining admission, filing FAFSA and making a deposit have been delayed due to FAFSA’s new software launch and ensuing technical glitches.

“But we are here to help,” Drewes said. “Students and parents don’t have to muddle through the admission or financial aid process alone. We encourage anyone who is confused, frustrated or worried to contact us directly. We can’t help if we don’t know there’s a problem!”
