Newman University will present “A Matter of Innocence” by Kirk Bloodsworth at 7 p.m. on April 16 in the Performance Hall of the De Mattias Fine Arts Center. Bloodsworth was the first man ever exonerated from death row due to post-conviction DNA testing.
He was wrongly convicted in March of 1985 of sexual assault, rape, and first-degree premeditated murder of a 9 year old girl. After spending nearly a decade in prison for a crime he did not commit, he was found innocent and released in June of 1993. 
Bloodsworth is now the advocacy director for “Witness to Innocence,” a coalition of exonerated death row inmates who fight to abolish capital punishment in the United States.
