Governor Sam Brownback proclaimed the week of Feb. 9-15 as
“Kansas Private College Week.” Newman University is one of 18 private
colleges in Kansas which comprise the Kansas Independent College
Association (KICA).
According to the proclamation signed by Gov. Brownback, Kansas private
colleges make up 20 percent of all bachelor’s degrees and 23 percent of all master’s
degrees completed within the state of Kansas.
In total, Kansas private colleges award over $120 million in grants and
scholarships annually, making it easier for students to achieve a quality
education.
The proclamation also notes that private colleges in Kansas promote the highest values and virtues, and as a result have consistently produced leaders that shape the future of Kansas, as many of the alums are known as influential and celebrated civic, business and cultural leaders across the state.
Founded Sept. 12, 1933, Newman is proud to be a member of the KICA. Newman
takes very seriously its commitment to educating graduates who will
transform society and looks forward to growing students professionally,
personally, and spiritually in the years ahead.
