The Newman University vocal group The Troubadours, select members from the Clearwater High School Blue Notes, and select members from the Bishop Carroll Catholic High School Madrigals and Chanterelles have been chosen to perform at the world-renowned Carnegie Hall in New York City on Sunday, March 13.
Newman University will provide a “sneak peek” of all the music to be performed at Carnegie Hall at a special concert scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, March 6, in Performance Hall of the De Mattias Fine Arts Center on the Newman campus. The concert featuring the Troubadours and Clearwater and Bishop Carroll students is designed to raise funds for the trip. Admission will be a goodwill offering. All money collected will be divided evenly among participating students to help cover costs for the trip.
During their five-day trip to New York spanning March 10 through 14, the students will have a stringent rehearsal schedule with Dr. John Leavitt, conductor and composer of the works that will be presented. Newman Director of Music Deanne Zogleman said the students have spent many hours learning the music so that Leavitt can spend rehearsal time polishing and working on details for each piece. In addition to working with a nationally known conductor and composer and the honor of performing at Carnegie Hall, students will attend a Broadway show, visit New York’s historical landmarks and enjoy a “concert celebration” dinner cruise around the Statue of Liberty.
