In 2020, Newman University alumna Jessica Forshee started her own mindset coaching business. Through it, she launched two journals: “30 Day Change: A 30 Day Challenge Journal” and “Get Obsessed: With Your Habits,” as well as a podcast, The Normalized Therapist.

“Each journal focuses on setting habits to encourage change,” Forshee said. “I focused on bringing to life realistic habit changes that have changed my life and wrote them into journals that would help others make changes for themselves. The journals could support anyone who is ready to make a change in their life or anybody who needs a kick start to change.”

Forshee shared that while self-publishing both journals was a big feat, it was extremely important for her to do.

“My main goal for both journals was to provide support to anyone out there who was looking to initiate change,” she said.

Recently, Forshee stepped away from her mindset coaching business to focus on her work as a manager at a community mental health agency in Seattle. She first began working at the agency during an internship for her master’s degree program. Upon graduation, she took a full-time position with them.

“The job has many rewards and is ever-changing,” Forshee said. “One piece of my job that I thoroughly enjoy is being able to advocate for changes within the systems that impact the clients I serve. The team I work with is extremely passionate about advocating for the clients, and supporting our staff is another piece of the job that I enjoy.”

Looking to the future, Forshee hopes to one day open her own private practice while continuing to support community mental health. She also has an interest in supporting clinical supervision for interns, as well as clinicians with associate licenses who are working toward licensure.

It’s evident that Forshee’s heart is rooted in a passion for helping others. She honed her expertise in doing so while an elementary education student at Newman, where she also played basketball. After graduating in 2010, she moved to San Antonio where she initially started her master’s program

“However, when I got offered my first teaching job, I decided to focus on teaching,” Forshee said. “Stepping away from my master’s program, I continued teaching for another six years in several different states as well as coaching basketball, volleyball and track.”

Then in 2017, Forshee moved to Seattle to be closer to her twin sister.

“At that time, I was finishing up my master’s program online and was ready to begin my internship and shift my career from teaching into counseling,” she explained.

Forshee encourages anyone who’s interested in going into counseling or life coaching to get in touch with her on Instagram at @jessicaforshee_therapist

“If you’re interested in podcasts, check out my podcast The Normalized Therapist and be on the lookout for some new info coming out about podcast episodes on the topic of mindset,” she added.
