Newman University students to host ‘Heimerman Halloween Odyssey’ to support food, toy drive

Oct 20, 2011

You know that strange round building called the Heimerman Science Center? Well, next week numerous Newman student groups are joining together to transform their science building into the “Heimerman Halloween Odyssey (H2O).” They invite you to join them!

The event, scheduled for Oct. 28, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., promises a safe, fun and educational Halloween experience for families with children. The event will include a bake sale, craft room, game room and, of course, trick or treating! As the name suggests, H2O and the activities offered are being designed with built-in learning opportunities for children as well.

While the event is free and open to the public, a canned food item or a children’s toy is requested for admittance. The canned food items will be distributed to local charities and the toys are being collected for the Navajo Reservation at Crownpoint, New Mexico. The Toy Drive, for infant through teen, will continue until Nov. 5. Violent/war games, toys that require batteries or large stuffed animals cannot be accepted.

The Heimerman Halloween Odyssey is sponsored by Newman’s Student Government Association, T&T Science Classes, Health Professionals Club, Pre-Med Club, and the Chemistry Club.
