Conni Mansaw, a Wichita native and Newman University alumna, recently joined the Newman team as senior development officer.

Mansaw obtained her Bachelor of Science in gerontology from Wichita State University and later obtained her master’s degree in education and organizational leadership at Newman University.

“As a working professional who made the decision to obtain my master’s degree while balancing my commitments as a wife, mom, daughter and active member of my community, I can confidently say my Newman experience was phenomenal,” Mansaw said. “The support I received from faculty and staff from the moment I stepped on the campus was irreplaceable.”

She added, “When you have someone encouraging, pouring into you and intentionally reminding you of what you can do and what you can be — it makes the journey unforgettable.”

Mansaw describes the support she received from the Newman staff, faculty and classmates as “a godsend.”

And when Mansaw finally walked across the stage at graduation in 2017, she knew her hard work had paid off when she noticed tears in her graduate advisor and mentor Gina Marx’s eyes.

It’s that family-like feeling that brought Mansaw, who has “always seen her ultimate career goal in an educational capacity in some way,” back to Newman for her career.

Stepping into the new role

As senior development officer for the university, Mansaw envisions her role as an opportunity to help Newman University create new and rediscover past relationships with donors and the Wichita community. She also plans to build partnerships in efforts that fulfill the vision and mission to empower graduates to transform society.

In addition to her new role, Mansaw is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., Junior League of Wichita sustainer, St. Mark United Methodist Church and serves as a board member to the Newman University Alumni Board, Wichita Professional Communicators and the nonprofit organization Sistahs Can We Talk.

“As a woman of color who received my master’s degree after establishing professional experience and focusing on my family, I’m proud to represent how Newman welcomes the diversity of its students.”
