Newman University senior and biology major Thao Nguyen was one of the students who attended the conference.

“MAASU is a regional conference where Asian Student Association (ASA) members meet up and collaborate with other ASA members from other universities to become better leaders, improve organization skills,” Thao said.

Canwen Xu, the 2019 MAASU keynote speaker, spoke to the students about overcoming her struggle with fitting in as an Asian-American within Asian organizations and communities. Xu is most known for her TEDx Talk about overcoming Asian stereotypes.

The students also took advantage of the scenery with a mild hike near Boulder. They experienced the downtown shopping district of Denver, spent tokens at an arcade and ate authentic Asian food at Denver’s Yummy Hot Pot.
