NU Director of Security Richard “Ollie” Oliverson retires

Jan 15, 2015

Friday, Jan. 16 is a bittersweet day for Newman University. On that day the Director of Security Richard “Ollie” Oliverson will leave his post to retire.

“I spent 14 years on the [Wichita Police] force and another 14 ½ here at Newman University,” Ollie said. “After retirement, I’ll probably pick up some part-time work to keep me busy.”

Ollie was a favorite around the campus among students, staff, and faculty. He recently received the 2014 Staff Excellence Award.

He could often be seen early Wednesday mornings at the Mabee Dining Center with the “Maintenance Breakfast Club,” consisting of (pictured above, l-r): Housekeeping Director Scott Stardy; Head Groundskeeper Darrin McKim; Ollie; Assistant Director of Maintenance Ted Fox; Director of Facilities Bruce Sanderson, and Maintenance Technician Brian Wells, along with Athletics Director Vic Trilli, Chief Information Officer Icer Vaughan, and others.

Ollie will be missed by many at Newman.

Morris “Mo” Floyd has been appointed Newman University Director of Security.
