Newman student Matthew Riedl receives top academic award

Newman University student Matthew Riedl is the 2013 recipient of the prestigious St. Catherine Medal, which is awarded annually to a sophomore or junior who has demonstrated outstanding service to the university, and has established an excellent record for scholastic achievement. The St. Catherine Medal is the highest student academic award bestowed by Newman University.

Riedl-Carrocci-72The award was presented Wednesday, April 17, at the 2013 Newman University Academic Honors and Awards Convocation, an annual event that honors student scholars and leaders for their outstanding academic achievements and accomplishments.

In addition to his academic accomplishments, Riedl, a sophomore communication major from Andover, Kan., is managing editor of the student newspaper The Vantage and sings in the Newman Chorale and Troubadours. With Riedl is Newman President Noreen M. Carrocci, Ph.D.
