The Great American Conference has announced their men’s players of the week for the 7th week of the 2022 season, and the Jets occupy two of the three spots.
Senior Matthew Roberts and Sophomore Juan Carlos Cordova were both recognized for their play this past weekend.
Matthew Roberts won the award for defender of the week due to his stellar performance against a #15 ranked Fort Hays State Tigers team. Roberts held the responsibility of handling FHSU’s leading goal scorer for the match and helped shut out one of the MIAA’s most potent offenses.
When asked about Roberts’ role in Saturday’s game, Coach Cliff Brown stated that, “Matt Roberts was assigned some significant defensive responsibilities versus Fort Hays, and we benefited from his energy in the application of these tactics.”
Juan Carlos Cordova was given the nod for goalkeeper of the week after his performance in the same game. This marked his second shutout of the season, and Cordova has continued to shine all year as he’s grabbed a total of 55 saves over 13 games so far.
Speaking on Cordova’s performance this season, Coach Brown said “Juan Carlos has been working hard to improve his game, and it is fantastic to see the results of his hard work.”
Roberts, Cordova, and the rest of the Jets Men’s team will be back in action Thursday, Oct. 13 as they go on the road to take on the Harding Bison at 7 p.m.
