The newly renovated conference room in McNeill Hall is being renamed the “Don Hufford Seminar Room,” in honor of retired Professor of Education Don Hufford, Ph.D.

The Newman Cabinet recently approved a proposal by Provost Mike Austin, Ph.D., on behalf of faculty and staff in the School of Education.

“For 20 years, Don Hufford has been the heart and soul of the Department of Education,” Austin said. “He changed students’ lives and made them excited about becoming teachers. The Don Hufford Seminar Room will be a fitting tribute to these years of service.”

When Hufford stopped teaching at Newman at the end of the fall 2014 semester, he considered it his second retirement. His first, he said, was in the late 1980s, when he retired from a three decades-plus career working with troubled youth in Massachusetts, Illinois and Kansas.
