In addition to Victor Domingues’ role as Newman University’s head men’s soccer coach, he serves as the first-ever coach for West Texas FC in Midland-Odessa.

In its inaugural year, the club made it to the National Premier Soccer League’s championship playoffs under Domingues’ helm.

“It took a lot of dedication and commitment from the guys this year to achieve our end-of-season goal, which was to make the postseason,” he shared. “In the beginning we faced a lot of adversity and struggled with external things outside of football, so for us to come together, be united and fight together was brilliant to see.”

“[Making it to the playoffs] feels great, not only for myself but for the guys who played this summer and will be transferring to Newman to play with me,” Domingues said. “We are pumped to continue on this high. Knowing what making history feels like, we want to do that at Newman. We are extremely excited.”

Domingues shared that his biggest goal for his first season at Newman is to not only enhance the culture and set program standards, but also to make it to the postseason.

“I am just super excited to meet all the players and see them on the pitch and compete,” he said. “There are a lot of guys with tremendous backgrounds, players playing this summer in the NPSL and UPSL and competing nationally, so I’m excited to have all this talent come together and compete to achieve our collective and individual goals.”

González, who’s been playing soccer for as long as he can remember, chose to attend Newman in part because of Domingues.

“I think I have always liked the discipline with which he leads us and the passion he transmits during each training session and match,” he said. “This will be my third season with him, and that gives me confidence since I know the way in which work is done and there is a lot of confidence that great things will be achieved.”

Machado also looks forward to continuing to play under Domingues at Newman.

“This will be my fourth year being Coach Victor’s player, and being under his orders excites me a lot because of the passion he transmits to me,” he said.

“I am very excited to start training with the team and going to classes as well,” Machado added. “My major is kinesiology, and I would love to work as a strength and conditioning coach for a professional soccer team. Studying here at Newman will give me the right tools to be able to do my dream job.”
