The countdown for Wichita’s Party on the Plaza: Roaring 20’s fundraiser on Sept. 30 is officially on, and Newman University has several generous sponsors to thank.
Scholarships equal opportunity for students with a collegiate dream, and for some, pursuing higher education wouldn’t be possible without financial support. By purchasing a ticket and participating in other fundraising efforts throughout Party on the Plaza, each guest helps students realize their dream of earning a degree.
Last year, Party on the Plaza attendees contributed to the grand total of $167,000 raised in just one evening. The goal for 2023 is to surpass this amount and benefit even more Newman University students.
Without the support of current and past sponsors, this impactful night of fundraising, thrilling entertainment and unique auction items would not be possible.
VIP Sponsors – $10,000
David ‘01, ‘11 and Glenna Borho have served as VIP sponsors of Party on the Plaza for nine consecutive years.
“The mission of the university is that students will earn a degree of difference,” David said. “There is an opportunity for young people to be educated in a very holistic manner, not just in books but life in general.”
Glenna added, “We often think about just how many Newman students we can help when we extend money to Newman, not only for Party on the Plaza but also additional money for scholarships. We love to help and we have an affinity to help. Not only while we’re here, but once we’re gone.”
Dale Withers is also a VIP sponsor for Party on the Plaza: Roaring 20’s.
Eldon Ford of Southwest Truck Parts has worked alongside Withers for nearly 20 years. Although neither Ford nor Withers are alumni of Newman, Ford is impressed by Withers’ willingness to support the university.
“I’ve always been impressed by his contribution to different kinds of charitable groups,” Ford said. “This one hits home a little bit with me because I had a granddaughter that went to school here a couple of years ago. She didn’t come from a family with a lot of resources and it means a lot to me that our company sponsors and supports organizations or events like this, where funds are raised for kids to go to college here.”
“We think that’s a wonderful thing,” Ford added.

From securing sponsorships, silent and live auction items to finding volunteers to help set up at Party on the Plaza, “it truly takes a village to pull off an evening like this,” said Vice President of Institutional Advancement Bob Beumer.
“Our sponsors are everything, and we can’t thank our volunteers enough for what they do for Newman,” Beumer said. “Without the sponsors bringing tables full of people and spreading the good word of what we’re doing here at Newman, we couldn’t do it without them. We certainly appreciate what they do for us.”
