The Steckline Gallery will present “Snap to Grid,” an exhibition of prints and artist books by Kelsey Reiman, during a First Friday exhibition from 5–7 p.m. March 6 at Newman University.
This event offers a chance to experience the gallery in an energetic, social setting, connecting directly with the art, the artist and the community. Attendees can engage with new work, ask questions and be part of a shared cultural moment rather than simply viewing art in passing.
The exhibition will be on display March 5-26. An Art for Lunch event, which includes a discussion with the artist and a pizza lunch for Newman students, will take place on Thursday, March 5, from noon–1 p.m.
All events are free and open to the public.

About the exhibit
“Snap to Grid” is an exhibition of prints and artist books that pairs systematic, geometric and technical constraints with an intuitive use of color. The exhibition examines how formal rules can both guide and limit creative expression.
Rules often provide structure, predictability and a sense of certainty. In an unpredictable world, they can offer stability and control. At the same time, rules can be restrictive, narrowing the range of possible outcomes.

The works in the exhibition are created using strict geometric and mathematical constraints, while color is applied intuitively. Color is intentionally allowed to remain uncertain, shifting in perception based on its surroundings.
Rather than enforcing control, the rules in “Snap to Grid” serve as a framework that allows for experimentation and variation. The prints and artist books explore the relationship between order and intuition, structure and freedom, and certainty and change.
