Seven years ago on Feb. 6, 2018, the Newman community received the news that Assistant Professor of Communication Suzanne V.L. Berg, Ph.D., died unexpectedly at the age of 36.

A memorial tree dedication and plaque unveiling ceremony was held three years later, organized by former Associate Professor of English Susan Crane-Laracuente, Ph.D. Nearly 50 gathered in attendance.

Today, Newman community members, staff, faculty and friends tied purple ribbons around the branches of the redbud tree planted in Berg’s honor.
