Each year, students of all majors have the opportunity to submit short stories, plays, poetry, art and photography for the chance to be published in the Newman student literary journal, Coelacanth (pronounced see-luh-kanth). This year, due to unique circumstances, the decision was made to host a summer unveiling and reading on June 15 in the Jabara Black Box Theatre.

Newman short story project culminates in bound book, “Into the Inkwell”
In May 2020, Newman students, alumni, faculty and staff started a collaborative short story project on Campus Ministry’s online forum, The Virtual Red Couch. The short story was written by nine individuals, each assigned his or her own chapter, and can now be read in a hardcover book format titled, “Into the Inkwell.”
Nursing graduates share “How You Know You’re a Newman Nursing Student”
Students Kirsten Adolph and Clare Morgan, both 2021 graduates, were volunteered by their classmates to lead the student address, which included a lighthearted segment, “How You Know You’re a Newman Nursing Student.”
Women of Sacred Heart Academy celebrate their 75th birthdays
On June 7, a 75th birthday celebration was held for women of the Sacred Heart Academy (now Newman University) class of 1964. The “Still Cruising 75 at 75” themed party included a luncheon, birthday cake, class photos from the university archives and even newly made Sacred Heart Academy (SHA) keychains as party favors.

2021 Ablah Awards presented to three outstanding students
