Plant, T-shirt and baked goods fundraiser scheduled for Nov. 16

Nov 10, 2021

For all you plant lovers and fans of home-baked goods, this fundraiser is right up your alley.

The Newman University Staff Assembly will host “The Mother of All Sales” fundraiser 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, in the former bookstore space in Dugan.

Goodies available for purchase include Newman T-shirts, assorted baked goods from individual cookies to full-sized pies and a wide variety of plants donated by the Adorers of the Blood of Christ sisters.

Hearts and Hands Fund

All money raised will replenish the Hearts and Hands fund, which helps staff members experiencing hardships like injuries, illnesses and/or life changes. Staff and faculty can nominate colleagues for assistance and, if approved by the Staff Assembly Committee, recipients receive a check for $200.

“I work as a chaplain at Ascension Via Christi St Francis and have seen how extra support can make a big difference when employees are faced with a difficult situation,” Sister Janet Rowley, ASC, said. “It inspires me to support Newman University in any way that I can.”

For those who fancy plants

Since plants are both healthy for the environment and for people, the sisters thought they’d make a great addition to the fundraiser.

Even for those who consider themselves “horticulturally challenged,” Sister Janet said, there are selections to fit their plant care abilities.

“It’s impossible for ‘brown thumb gardeners’ to over or under water a plant that is growing in water,” Sister Janet added with a smile.

All are welcome to attend this come-and-go fundraising event. Buy a few baked goods for the road and spruce up your workspace or home with some flourishing plants.
