Newman University names Troy Horine Vice President for University Advancement
Newman University has named Wichita native Troy Horine Vice President for University Advancement. Horine has assumed duties at Newman effective July 16. Horine will oversee Newman’s Advancement Department, which incorporates Fundraising/Development, Alumni Relations, University Relations, and Mission and Archives.

Dodge City Diocese students experience faith, fellowship, and fun at Newman University service camp
Sixteen high school students from the Catholic Diocese of Dodge City attended the 4th annual Summer Service Camp hosted by Newman University in June. The weeklong camp is held to give students from schools in the Dodge City Diocese an opportunity to serve others while growing in faith and experiencing fellowship.
Drewes honored by Greater Wichita Sports Commission
2012 USBC Intercollegiate Women’s Singles Champion Georgia Drewes was honored by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission at its annual banquet June 28 at the Hyatt Regency in Wichita. Newman signs five-year outfitting contract with Adidas
NU Athletics recently signed a five-year contract with Adidas, which will provide exclusive apparel and footwear to all of Newman’s athletic teams. The new agreement ensures that all Newman University athletic teams will be outfitted in Adidas uniforms, including practice and travel gear. Newman closed for Independence Day
No classes will be held and all offices will be closed at Newman University Wednesday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. Classes and offices will resume normal hours on Thursday, July 5.
Fugate Gymnasium closes for floor resurfacing
Fugate Gymnasium inside O’Shaughnessy Hall will close July 9 as work crews begin a complete resurfacing of the floor. The floor will be sanded down and completely refinished. The court has not been refinished since the gymnasium was built in 1999. Fugate Gymnasium is expected to remain closed through July.

Anonymous donors honor Father Emil Kapaun with scholarship for Newman University Campus Ministry students
Anonymous donors recently made a gift of $75,000 to create a scholarship for students involved in Campus Ministry at Newman University, and to honor the life and work of Father Emil J. Kapaun, the Kansas-born Catholic priest and Army chaplain who died in a North Korean prisoner of war camp in 1951.

Three future Newman students awarded The Kansas Hispanic Scholarship
Several members of the Newman community attended a dinner held by the Wichita Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, of which Newman University is a proud Deans Circle donor. The event, Embracing Diversity, was the WHCC’s 10th Annual Awards and Scholarship Recognition Dinner where each year they award students the prestigious Kansas Hispanic Scholarship Program scholarship.

Newman University officials have announced the students on the Dean’s List for the spring semester of 2012. To qualify for this achievement, a student must complete 12 credit hours and have attained a grade point average of 3.5 or better.
